Fjoertoer 2025

Every spring, Terschelling becomes the stage for a unique walking and Nordic Walking event: the Fjoertoer. This special event takes participants through vast polders, mysterious forests, high dunes, and across the wide beach, partly at night. A combination of sportiness and relaxation, light and dark, fire and silence. The Fjoertoer is an experience you won't soon forget!
What makes the Fjoertoer so special?
- A walk full of contrasts: During the walk, the night falls and it gets dark. Along the way, island artists create various surprising fire, light, and sound effects to guide you through the night-time darkness.
- Three distances: Choose a route that suits you – 12, 17, or 22 kilometres – and discover the magic of the island at your own pace.
- The magic of the Brandaris: The people of Terschelling call their iconic lighthouse 'Toer'. This centuries-old beacon for shipping symbolises the fire ('fjoer') that is also central to the Fjoertoer.
- A unique atmosphere: The Fjoertoer is more than just a walk. It is an experience where art, nature, and adventure come together, with atmospheric bonfires and special sound effects along the route.
- A popular event since 2008: The Fjoertoer was first organised in 2008 and has since become an annual spectacle attracting walkers from near and far.
Lytse Fjoertoer: a magical walk for children
On the evening before the Fjoertoer, children and their (grand)parents can join in the Lytse Fjoertoer, a special shorter version of the route, 6 kilometres long. Get surprised in the dark forest and experience an unforgettable evening together!
