Walking on Terschelling

Terschelling has more than 200 kilometres of footpaths through woodland, heath, dunes and salt marsh, from the Noordsvaarder in the west to the Boschplaat in the east.

• Wilderness in the east: the Boschplaat stretches for 10 kilometres and is one of the most important nature reserves for breeding birds.
• Drifting dunes in the west: close to West-Terschelling lie the sand plains and shifting dunes of the Noordsvaarder.
• For every level: from a short heathland stroll to a full-day hike, see the walking routes.
• The highest point: from the Seinpaalduin and other viewpoints you look out over the island, the North Sea and the Wadden Sea.
• Along the tideline: the wide beach on the north side runs almost the full length of the island.
• Across the seabed: with a guide you can also go mudflat hiking at low tide.

3 Walking routes

The walking routes on Terschelling lead through the drifting dunes of the Noordsvaarder, across the heath and up to the highest dune on the island.

• Boswachterspad Noordsvaarder: an 11 km walk through the ever-changing dune and sand landscape in the west.
• Boswachterspad Landerumheide en Waterplak: 5.7 km, mostly on natural paths across the heath and along the water.
• Doodemanskisten and Seinpaalduin: a short 4.3 km route, largely on natural paths, to the highest dune on Terschelling.
