De Bessenschuur - Sight

De Bessenschuur on the Badweg West near West-Terschelling is the original barn where harvested cranberries were collected and sorted. Today it is a coffee and tea house with a bird exhibition, in the woods on the way to West aan Zee.

What can you expect at De Bessenschuur?

• History: The barn was built more than 85 years ago on an American model and calls itself the only original cranberry barn in Europe. Legend has it that beachcomber Pieter Sipkes Cupido found a washed-up barrel of cranberries around 1840. Disappointed it held no liquor, he dumped it in the dunes, where the berries took root.
• Bird exhibition: In the barn you'll find an exhibition on the birds of Terschelling.
• Coffee and tea: De Bessenschuur belongs to Terschellinger Cranberries and is open daily for coffee and tea.

• Surroundings: De Bessenschuur is on Terschelling's culinary cycle route. From here it's a short ride to the beach or the Brandaris.
• Tip: You'll find more cranberry products in the cranberry shop.
